On the heels of a number of other Google leaks that Droid Life published this afternoon, we now have a clear look at the forthcoming Pixel 2.
The follow-up to last year’s Google Pixel (the smaller of the two
Google phones), which is being announced on October 4th, will come in
three colors: kinda blue, just black, and clearly white. Droid Life
says to expect roughly the same kind of pricing structure as last
year’s Pixel. That means a 64GB option for $649, and a 128GB option for
$749 — $200 less than the reported Pixel 2 XL pricing.
Like last year’s Pixels, the Pixel 2 will be made by HTC (which Google is reportedly considering buying).
The Pixel 2 XL, however, is reportedly being manufactured by LG.
Exactly how big a difference that will spell between these two phones is
hard to say from the leaks alone, but it does now seem apparent they’ll
be similar in design with small cosmetic disparities.
Both will also reportedly get the same squeeze gesture feature that HTC introduced on the U11,
despite the differing manufacturers. And the camera modules could also
be the same, if Google follows its own example set back in 2015 with the
LG-made Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P. Really, the biggest differences are expected to be the processors and the screens.
Of course, we’ll know full details about the Pixel 2 — as well as the Pixel 2 XL, Google Home Mini, and new Daydream VR headsets — in just a few short weeks.
